Banksy's Mural, The Migrant Child, in Venice will be Restored

"The Migrant Child," one of only two Banksy works in Italy, is a mural created by the artist on a wall near Campo San Pantalon in Venice.

Banksy created it in the night of May 8 and 9, 2019. The mural will be restored, the initiative is made possible through the efforts of Undersecretary Vittorio Sgarbi, who has partnered with an Italian bank willing to cover the expenses.

Migrant Child by Banksy, one of the leading figures in contemporary art and a major tourist attraction, has badly deteriorated due to excessive damp, high water, and salt over the past four years. "The fragility of the mural was brought to my attention by the Mayor of Venice and the President of the Veneto Region," explains Sgarbi. "I took immediate action and secured the support of a banking foundation to cover the costs”.
