Ai Weiwei gets his Chinese Passport back

Contemporary artist and activist Ai Weiwei made a photo of himself holding his Chinese passport on his Instagram account earlier today. Chinese artist and dissident wrote, “Today I got my passport.” In 2011 Ai Weiwei was barred from leaving China after his 81-day detention. He was still suspected of crimes like bigamy, pornorgaphy and illicit exchange of foreign currency, Reuters reported in 2012, however Ai's supporters and followers widely viewed his detention as retaliation for his criticism of the Chinese government. After the release Ai Weiwei continued his international artistic work, concentrating on the theme of human rights and freedom of expression among others.
