Art Basel 2016: British artist Conrad Shawcross unveils new installation at The Peninsula Hong Kong

A major work by pioneering British artist and youngest living member of the Royal Academy of Arts, Conrad Shawcross RA, exhibited in The Peninsula’s iconic Lobby and appearing in Hong Kong for the first time, combines sculpture, robotics and music in a groundbreaking sonic and visual spectacle and will be on display from 22 March to 5 April 2016.

The second instalment of The Peninsula’s ongoing collaboration with Britain’s leading artist-led institution, the Royal Academy of Arts (RA), the installation draws from the eponymous legacy of 19th-century mathematician Ada Lovelace. The daughter of the famed English poet Lord Byron, Lovelace predicted the dawn of calculating machines that would one day be capable of composing music out of binary numbers, a concept that is explored in all its complexity in Shawcross’ spellbinding conceptual work.
