Katharina Grosse Elected as Chair of the Board of KUNST-WERKE BERLIN e. V.

KUNST-WERKE BERLIN e. V., the support association of both KW Institute for Contemporary Art and of the Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, has announced the internationally acclaimed artist Katharina Grosse as chairwoman of the board.

KUNST-WERKE BERLIN e. V., the support association of both KW Institute for Contemporary Art and of the Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, has announced the internationally acclaimed artist Katharina Grosse in her new function as chairwoman of the board. She is succeeding Ólafur Elíasson in this function, who is renouncing his responsibilities as chairman of the board at his own request. Julia Stoschek and Matthias Sauerbruch will remain in their function as members of the Executive Board and continue their long-standing collaboration with the house.

"I'm pleased to hand over the chairmanship of KUNST-WERKE BERLIN e. V. to Katharina Grosse on the occasion of its 30th anniversary and honored that we were able to win over such an outstanding artist to chair the board and accompany KW as well as the Berlin Biennale into the next decade. I trust that her longstanding experience with the international art world, her ongoing commitment to Berlin and to KW, as well as her competence and personality will not just benefit the support association; I'm also convinced that her engagement and her openness to dialogue will bring important new impulses to the institution. It means a lot to me that she, being an artist herself, knows not only how to emphasize the strength and the significance of KUNST-WERKE BERLIN e. V. as a cultural institution, but will inspire the house internally and represent it externally with her complete confidence in the strength of art", said Ólafur Elíasson about his successor.

"KW is a unique place in Berlin that shows with great urgency how unusual forms of experience can emerge and daring alternatives be inserted into the debates. I'm very pleased to be able to support the liveliness and dynamism of KUNST-WERKE BERLIN e. V. as well as Gaby Horn and Krist Gruijthuijsen", Katharina Grosse added.

In the 30 years of its existence, KUNST-WERKE BERLIN e. V. has made a great impact on the way in which contemporary art is perceived within current social debates. By way of exhibitions, commissions and other interdisciplinary events, as well as cooperations with artists and other institutions, it selects to this day relevant tendencies from the national and international discourse in contemporary art and culture in order to further develop them.
