Possible Painting by Michelangelo, or one of his Pupils, Stolen in Belgium

On Friday morning between 5.00 and 6.00 in the morning, a burglar stole a painting from the St. Ludgerus Church in Zele. It concerns the work 'Holy Family' - 145 by 99 centimeters - from the sixteenth century that might be a painting by Michelangelo or one of his pupils.

The artwork would soon be examined by Italian specialists to see if it could be Michelangelo's or one of his pupils. If it is indeed Michelangelo, then it is a very expensive work.

The thief could enter the church through the sacristy. The cylinder of the green exterior door was broken off. The theft was noticed yesterday, but probably happened very early Thursday. Suspicious actions were noted at both entrance doors of the church.
