Sol Calero - First Solo Exhibition in Belgium

Kunsthal Extra City is honoured to present the first solo exhibition of Sol Calero in Belgium. The cultural season will be opened on Friday 13 September with Sol Calero's new installation 'ISLA'.

Throughout Sol Calero’s practice, the artist approaches the aesthetics, craftwork, and architecture of Latin American countries as a multi-faceted subject.

On the surface, her work appears as a celebration of un-canonized modes of art-making outside of the Western narrative. At the same time, she observes the very same imagery as a cliché, formed in the eyes of the Western outsider, which homogenises and exoticises a tumultuous actuality into a series of pleasant, bright and understandable icons.

Sol Calero will develop a new site specific work for the exhibition at Kunsthal Extra City.
