UK Prime Minister James Cameron approves Gabriele Finaldi as the new director of the National Gallery London

Gabriele Finaldi is appointed as the new director of the National Gallery London, he will take over from Mr. Penny in August.

Gabriele Finaldi is appointed as the new director of the National Gallery London, he will take over from Mr. Penny in August.  

Finaldi was born in London, studied at the Courtauld Institute of Art, did his doctorate on the 17th-century Spanish artist Jusepe de Ribera.
 
Finaldi comes from The Museo del Prado, Madrid, were he was the deputy director responsible for collections and research. For the Prado he organised some great shows on Turner, Manet, El Greco, Goya, Titian. At the National Gallery he wants to emphasize on research.
 
Mr. Penny will retire, he was the director of the National Gallery London since 2007.
