Tate Britain announces major David Hockney retrospective in 2017 Tate Britain has announced the world’s most extensive retrospective of the work of David Hockney, opening February 2017. Widely regarded as one of the most successful and recognisable artists of our time, this exhibition will celebrate Hockney’s achievement in painting, drawing, print, photography and video. Following its presentation in London the exhibition, organised in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou and The Metropolitan Museum, will tour internationally to Paris and New York.

The Serpentine expands its internationally acclaimed programme The Serpentine has announced that, in tandem with the 16th Pavilion, it expands its internationally acclaimed programme of exhibiting architecture in a built form by commissioning four architects to each design a 25sqm Summer House. The four Summer Houses are inspired by the nearby Queen Caroline’s Temple, a classical style summer house, built in 1734 and a stone’s throw from the Serpentine Gallery.

Unknown work of Delville discovered Exclusive news for the Royal Library and the Fin-de-Siècle Museum: an until recently unknown artwork of Jean Delville has been (re)discovered in the collections of the Royal Library’s Prints Cabinet. As a privileged partner of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, the Library is exhibiting this rare discovery at the Fin-de-Siècle Museum.

TEFAF Maastricht to launch two new annual art fairs in New York at Park Avenue Armory in Fall of 2016 and Spring of 2017 TEFAF | Maastricht, the world's foremost fair of art, antiques and design presented annually in Maastricht, Netherlands, has announced that, through a joint venture with New York based Artvest, it will be launching two TEFAF art fairs that will be presented annually in New York at the Park Avenue Armory. The first fair, TEFAF | New York | Fall, will premiere in October 2016 (22-27 October 2016, opening night on Friday 21 October) and focus on art from antiquity to the 20th Century. The second fair, TEFAF | New York | Spring, will premiere in May 2017 (4-9 May 2017, opening night on 3 May) with an emphasis on modern and contemporary art and design.

Art Basel (Basel, Switzerland) has just announced its gallery Art Basel has just announced its gallery list for the 47th edition of the show in Basel, Switzerland, taking place from June 16 to June 19, 2016. This year, 287 leading international galleries will present works ranging from the early 20th century to the most contemporary artists of today. The Basel show, whose Lead Partner is UBS, will present a diverse geographical selection of leading international galleries from 33 countries.

Sun Xun has been selected as the second artist to present the Audemars Piguet Art Commission Audemars Piguet is delighted to announce that Beijing-based artist Sun Xun has been selected as the second artist to present the Audemars Piguet Art Commission. Sun Xun will collaborate with the commission’s guest curator Ruijun Shen and Audemars Piguet on the production of a major new artwork to be unveiled at Art Basel in Miami Beach, in December 2016.

Olafur Eliasson  at the palace of Versailles in 2016 Olafur Eliasson is the Palace of Versailles’ guest artist for the summer of 2016. The work of internationally acclaimed visual artist Olafur Eliasson (IS/DK, 1967) investigates perception, movement, embodied experience, and feelings of self. He is best known for striking installations such as the hugely popular The weather project (2003) in the Turbine Hall of Tate Modern, London, which was seen by more than two million people, and The New York City Waterfalls (2008), four large-scale artificial waterfalls which were installed on the shorelines of Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Annette Messager offers intimate intrigue in Calais Consider if you will the bolster, a firm tubular pillow used in continental Europe. Right now some 420 of them flood the atrium of the Musée des beaux arts in Calais. They flow from a balcony to the ground floor, where they puddle in a spotlit maze. Amidst this intimate nest, abject puppets sprawl, and play out dark vignettes. But although there is a story here, the narrative is as private as a locked bedroom.
