Police in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, said on Saturday that a man has been detained for damaging two Class-II protected artifacts.
A 30-year-old man breached the barriers and protective fencing of the excavation pit at the Terracotta Warriors Museum, entering Pit No. 3 at around 5:30 p.m. Friday, according to a statement released by the Lintong branch of the Xi'an public security bureau.
He damaged two armored warrior statues in pushing and pulling, the notice said, adding that he has been found to suffer from mental illness. The man was found to “suffer from mental illness” and the case is under investigation.
