Muzej Lah is a new museum located in Bled, Slovenia, integrating contemporary art with the stunning natural beauty of the Julian Alps.
The museum will house the extensive Fundacija Lah art collection, built by art patrons Igor and Mojca Lah over three decades, which is accessible to the public for the first time.
Featuring renowned international and Slovenian artists such as Anselm Kiefer, Joseph Beuys, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, William Kentridge, Zoran Mušič and Neue Slowenische Kunst, the collection highlights profound social and historical changes and diverse lived experiences since the end of World War II. The collection also features some of the most influential contemporary artists operating today such as Anne Imhof, Theaster Gates and Hito Steyerl, providing a comprehensive view of the latter 20th and early 21st centuries.
The museum building is designed by David Chipperfield Architects, the architecture practice founded by Pritzker Prize winning British architect Sir David Chipperfield. Harmonizing seamlessly with its alpine surroundings and the town’s famous medieval Bled Castle, it reflects the area's rich historical and cultural heritage.
Muzej Lah will be more than just a space to show art; it is a cultural hub for the local community and international visitors, with an art library, research centre, restaurant, shop, and multifunctional gallery spaces hosting exhibitions, performances, concerts, film screenings, and educational programs. Through its program, the institution aims to provoke thought on contemporary relations to time and humanity.
