Queen Victoria Bust at Kelvingrove Museum, Scotland, undamaged After Protest

Protesters defaced the marble bust with food and spray paint, but a spokesperson for the museum said no permanent damage has been caused.

Conservators at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum have restored a bust of Queen Victoria which was defaced in a protest on Sunday. The Glasgow museum was temporarily closed at lunchtime on Sunday 3 March after protestors covered the bust of Queen Victoria in porridge and jam and spray-painted an offensive word on the plinth below the statue.

Two people were subsequently arrested, and the museum reopened later in the day. Campaign group This Is Rigged said two of its members had taken the action to call for the Scottish government to address food insecurity.

The marble bust, sculpted in 1888 by Francis John Williamson, saw no permanent damage and remains on display.
