The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO)Internal Affairs Office, Public Corruption Section arrested two Miami-Dade County employees assigned to the Port of Miami as custodial workers in an art theft case.
According to investigators, the port authorities notified MDSO detectives, assigned to the Port of Miami, of a possible theft inside a terminal. MDSO detectives met with port authorities and reviewed surveillance video, which depicted Port of Miami workers removing artwork from a terminal, loading it in their personal vehicles, and exiting the port.
Public Corruption Section detectives assumed the investigation and were able to identify the subjects. With the assistance of the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office, two warrants were obtained and both subjects were arrested. Detectives were able to recover over 50,000 U.S. dollars in artwork.
