PAMM's hurricane-proof building reopens Thursday

Following Hurricane Irma, that hit the Florida Keys on Sunday last week as a Category 4 storm Artdependence Magazine reached out to Alexa Ferra, Associate Director of Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) Marketing and Communications department for a comment.

"PAMM fared very well in Hurricane Irma. PAMM sustained no damage to the building, and suffered no flooding. The roof held well, and there was no problem with the hurricane-resistant windows.  Surge from Biscayne Bay did not reach the building, even at high tide.  The hanging gardens held well structurally, and only weakened plants in the hanging gardens were lost, and will easily be replaced. The exterior sculptures and interior artwork are fine.  The power remained on in the building, and the air conditioning at the appropriate level for the artwork was maintained.  The garage surface had some temporary pooling of water due to rain and drainage. There was some minor damage to landscaping, which is already in the process of being corrected.  PAMM expects to have the building fully ready for opening and welcoming the public on Thursday, September 14, at 10 a.m.  If there is still a 7 p.m. City of Miami curfew in place on Thursday due to the storm, PAMM will close at 6 p.m.; otherwise, PAMM will close at 9 p.m., as usual for Thursdays, and is planning family-oriented programming.

In addition to being well-prepared ahead of time, PAMM had a skilled and dedicated 14-person team on premises during the storm, which kept the facility safe and sound.  That team was in contact and very well-coordinated with PAMM’s neighbor, Frost Science, and the City of Miami Police.  PAMM encountered no security or safety issues.  We are happy to report that all PAMMily members are safe."

Mark Rosenblum (CFO): "Safety and security are top priorities at PAMM, and storm preparation is something we focus on year-round. Every spring, we fine tune our policies and procedures, and implement training so we are ready for the hurricane season.”
