The Museum St John's Hospital in Bruges Reopens as New Museum focusing on Care and Hospitality

Museum Visits in The Netherlands Show Significant Recovery in 2022, But Remain Below Pre-Pandemic Levels

In 2022, there were a total of 23.5 million museum visits, despite the mandatory closure in the first 4 weeks of the year. While the return of the public is good news for the sector, the rising costs are putting significant pressure on museums.

Flemish Minister of Culture, Jan Jambon, allocates an Extra 18 Million Euros a Year for the Cultural Heritage Sector

The Flemish Government has decided to allocate an additional 18 million euros over the next five years to the cultural heritage sector. This brings the total amount for structural operational subsidies within the Cultural Heritage Decree to 51.5 million euros per year.

Wright Morris - The Home Place

Foam has opened 2020 with the first-ever exhibition in the Netherlands of the celebrated American author Wright Morris (1910-1998). As well as being a writer, Morris devoted a short period of his life to photography. In his own distinctive way, he portrayed the poverty and decline that plagued the United States in the 1930s and 40s.

Banksy Truck Crashes Goodwood Motor Car Sale

A 17-ton truck, covered in graffiti by the artist Banksy, will be offered by Bonhams on Saturday 14 September, at its motor car auction, the Goodwood Revival sale. The vehicle (a Volvo FL6 box lorry), entitled Turbo Zone Truck (Laugh Now But One Day We'll Be in Charge), from 2000, is the largest-ever work created by Banksy, with a painted surface area of 80 square metres. The estimate of £1,000,000-1,500,000 ($1,300,000-2,000,000) reflects the work's importance.

Kingdom of the Netherlands Establishes Endowment Fund in Support of Center for Netherlandish Art at MFA Boston

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), announced this Monday that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has shared its intent to establish a permanent endowment fund in support of the MFA’s Center for Netherlandish Art (CNA). The fund, named The Kingdom of the Netherlands Fund for Dutch Scholars, will allow Dutch academics, students and institutions to participate in CNA programs and research initiatives, sustaining international connections between scholars in both countries.

Empowering statues. Every statue tells a story

It’s not sheer chance that great historical art centers such as Venice, Amsterdam and New York all became important commercial centers at around the same time. That is also part of Antwerp’s story. Antwerp is world renowned for its diamonds, its port, its fashion mecca as well as its international art center. In 1600 its Golden Age came to an end and a young Rubens walked through its streets.
